I thought it would be appropriate to start with what has been by far my favorite holiday commercial this year (almost just in time for the season?).

In a lot of ways, this spot speaks for itself. The song definitely grabs your attention, and unless you're made of stone, gives you a good chuckle. (Yaaaam right!)
But notice how the commercial also carefully refutes traditional criticisms of yams as a holiday dish. Yams are not dull! How can they be dull if they're related to Shaft! He's a bad motha-! And yams are nutritional – not just packed with brown sugar and marshmallows, but also nutrients like fiber, vitamins A and C, and beta carotenes.
I'm sorry, but how can you resist yams that are so – for lack of a better word – badass?
I would have liked to hear "shut your mouth!" However, I have to admit that it would be a very poor choice to say that aloud in a commercial for a food. Oh well.
